CMU Splits With RMU

Box Scores: Game one » Game two »

September 14, 2008

After rain canceled one game, the Tartans played 2 games against Robert Morris on Sunday.

The first game was rough going as the Tartans had to shake the rust off for the first season of the game. In spite of troubles at the plate, new comer Bennet Poepping went 2 for 3 with a two RBI single to plate James Langhauser and Brian Tabata. Eric Bruner had an RBI as well as provided 4.1 innings. James Langhauser came in relief to close out the rest of the game. In the end, the Colonials tacked on too many runs for the Tartans to make any come back, losing 11-4.

The second game was a different story. CMU's bats came alive as 7 batters each got hits. The top of the order got the job done, plating 5 RBIs between Joe Seymour, Mike Niedzwiecki, and James Langhauser. Phil Manor and Jim Spagnola also tallied an RBI each. Senior Jon Coens took the mound for the Tartans and, after a shaky first inning, struck out 10 batters while allowing only 5 hits in a complete game win.
