April 15, 2012

The Tartans finished a wild weekend of baseball against Robert Morris in which Brendan MacNabb pitched in all three games, grinding through 10 2/3 difficult innings, and there were a total of 62 runs scored between the two teams. The weekend was highlighted by the return of Evan Fisch, who went 4 for 7 with two doubles after eight months on the DL, and great hitting by Kyle Woltersdorf, who went 5 for 9 including his third homer of the season, an absolute bomb to left field.

Game 1: RMU 11, CMU 1 (Saturday 4/14)

Juan Infante had some bad luck in the field, and took a tough loss despite only giving up three earned runs, and the Tartans struggled to get any offense going. Mike Terrick played well after battling back from mononucleosis, and was the lone bright spot for the Tartans as he went 2 for 2 on the day.

Game 2: RMU 12, CMU 11 (Sunday 4/15)

The Tartans offense finally got going in support of starting pitcher Dan Stoll, but the Tartans made too many mistakes in the field to win the game. Jon Tan ran wild on the basepaths all day, and had three of his five steals in game one of the double header. Evan Fisch also began his triumphant return to the lineup with two hits, including a double into the gap. However, the MVP of this game, and the weekend was definitely new captain Kyle Woltersdorf, who went 2 for 3 in the first game with a triple, two walks, three steals and three runs batted in.

Game 3: CMU 15, RMU 12 (Sunday 4/15)

The Tartans earned a split of the double header thanks to another offensive explosion. Brendan MacNabb started the game, but ran out of gas by the sixth inning, which was his eleventh of the weekend, and tenth of the day. Kyle Woltersdorf pitched very well in relief and closed the door on any chance of a Robert Morris comeback by striking out the last batter with the bases loaded on a beautiful curveball. He also blasted his third dinger of the season. Evan Fisch continued to tear the cover off the ball by going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and three runs scored. Mike Terrick finished off a good weekend with three RBI-singles. Brian Ferri had two hits and scored twice, and Adam Gruber had his fifth and sixth multi-RBI games of the season on Sunday.
