Tartans Announce Spring 2006 Schedule
October 29, 2005
The Tartans today released the schedule for the Spring 2006 season, the team's first in the National Club Baseball Association. Carnegie Mellon is a member of the New Penn West Conference, along with teams from Kent State, Penn State, Robert Morris and West Virginia University.
The team will play 3 game series against each member of the conference, beginning with a home series against Penn State the weekend of March 25. Additionally, the Tartans will play perennial rival Franciscan University in two doubleheaders the weekend of March 18. Head coach Claudio Reilsono and the board are still looking to schedule additional games with local teams.
As members of the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA), if Carnegie Mellon wins the New Penn West Conference, they will be eligible to take part in the Northeast Atlantic Regional Tournament, playing the best teams from 3 other conferences in the northeast. The winner of the regional tournament plays in the NCBA World Series.
Looking ahead, Reilsono sees a bright future in the NCBA. "We are very excited to be a part of the NCBA. Looking at our division, with Penn State, Kent State, Robert Morris and West Virginia, we know we have a lot of work to do, but I know we are up to the challenge. Every team that played us this season said, 'This is not the same Carnegie Mellon team of the past.' The guys worked very hard and gave it all they could. We will make some noise in the NCBA to be sure."
