Tartans Bid Seniors Farewell

Head coach Claudio Reilsono had planned a huge Senior Day celebration for today, and there were hundreds of fans who made the trek out to Esmark Field for the Tartans' finale. However, Mother Nature being the cold-hearted [you know what word I'm going to write here but I'm not sure if it's going to fly with the system] that she is, decided to make it rain, and not in that wicked awesome way (but that would have been totally epic). Because of this, the seniors of the CMU baseball team were not able to receive their proper send-off. The following is an attempt to make amends for that (though it is small consolation).

Tartans fall to CCAC

The CMU baseball team lost both games of a double header against CCAC South on Saturday, despite some very good starting pitching from Darren Kerfoot and Darryl Tan. The Tartans were sloppy in the field, and not on their game hitting, wasting solid efforts from both pitchers.

Econolodge Not Worst Part of Road Trip

The Tartans drove three hours to State College, PA, and were embarrassed by Penn State in two games on Saturday. Thus the incredibly sketchy Econolodge motel in the middle of nowhere was not the worst part of the road trip. In addition, the Tartans are also currently in an epic battle with CMU's JFC, trying to get enough funding for the upcoming season. The budget was completely slashed, and the baseball team appealed in response to the cuts. In their infinite wisdom, the JFC scheduled the appeal meeting during Sunday's game against Penn St, in State College. This move is both an egregious oversight and blatantly disrespectful to all members of the team. Words can not describe the fury and frustration that rage inside team president Brendan MacNabb's head.

Tan Brothers Lead Tartans

The Tartans made the long drive all the way to California University (PA) for today's double-header. The field was packed with a capacity crowd, expecting to see their Vulcans sweep the visiting Tartans in their home opener; but by the end of the afternoon, it was the Tan brothers -- Darryl "Bricks" and Jon "Tanimal" who had stolen the show. Evan Fisch called two very good games behind the plate. Mike Terrick also played very well at first base, and picked up a couple of hits on the afternoon. Alex Golemb was hit by a pitch in both games, and has now been plunked in three straight tilts.

Team Falls Short in Dodgeball Final

In a valiant effort to win the $500 grand prize in the university-wide Tartan Olympics, the baseball team fell in the final to Beta Theta Pi, in what was the worst-officiated dodgeball game since third grade. The referees were members of the same fraternity which took the crown, and conveniently did not see any of the Betas get hit. The officiating was atrocious, and cost the baseball team a title.

Tartans Forced to Streets (updated 1/26)

It was an extremely cold and snowy Pittsburgh day last Friday, with temperatures in the 20s, and snow falling from the grey skies. People on Forbes Ave. walked past, taking no notice of senior second baseman Cookie Joe Barbish and junior pitcher Brendan MacNabb (pictured), who were sitting on the sidewalk, looking for a little mercy, and some much-needed help.
